Now, who pays for it? a) Everyone puts a little bit of money in through tax increase, with those that can afford to pay more doing so. OR b) The elderly. If you answered a, pat yourself on the back for thinking like a sensible person. If you answered b, well pat yourself on the back for thinking like the Bush, DeLay, and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC). You see, the republican plan is to take the money from medicare; to take the money from senior citizens, some of whom are living on a fixed income, in a condemned building, on a diet of pet food. After all, they don't really need all that money do they? But there's more. The administration is still seeking a $70 billion tax cut for the wealthy in fiscal year 2006, along with a $300 billion deficit. Because, the elderly don't need all those drugs anyway, right?

Dick, I thought that he sounded like FDR, and I thought he sounded like LBJ. And any liberal could have given that speech tonight. MORRIS: I thought that this speech was as important and as good a speech as any since his address to the joint session of Congress after 9/11. It was a female speech. It was a caring speech. MORRIS: That's why the people who said this storm is going to hurt Bush's Presidency are just wrong. He can get all the money he wants out of Congress because of this disaster. The people will be solidly behind him. The media will cover it like crazy. And he's going to look like Santa Claus. COLMES: So if you were advising Democrats now, how would you advise them to react? MORRIS: To shut up-- COLMES: Shut up? MORRIS: --and stop carping and screaming and hollering and pointing fingers, and start amassing national credits by showing the same liberal Democratic compassion Bush did. And then remember how people said we need a Marshall Plan for Africa? People are going to say we need to use the lessons of the Gulf opportunity zone for the rest of the country. HANNITY: When he said we have a duty to confront this poverty with bold action, I think some people--of course, we have to do that. Of course, we're going to rebuild it in a way that's going to be, to turn this again into a vibrant city and make it better. MORRIS: Back in the 60s, Michael Harrington in his famous book, The Other America, spoke about how the poor are invisible. And now they lifted up the Superdome and we saw what's underneath, and we saw the poor. And we saw it in a way we couldn't possibly ignore. And I think this is a seminal moment in our history. And I think Bush rose to the occasion magnificently. HANNITY: Let me ask you a little bit more about the Democratic Party you were discussing with Alan, The rush, the race, the glee almost, to politicize a catastrophe like this. It's been shocking, in terms of the Democratic Party. MORRIS: Yep. HANNITY: What will be the reaction to that? MORRIS: Well, I just don't think that, I don't think this is a horse race. I think Bush is in a one-horse race here, because he has, the President has such mastery of all of the tools of disaster relief. It's a military effort; Congress appropriates whatever you want; he controls the executive branch. And this is something where Bush can just go ahead and do his thing, and all the Democrats can do is sigh. HANNITY: Did he blunt some of the criticism on the federal government side, when he said that some of the efforts were not well coordinated, overwhelmed in the first few days? Because you wrote about this . You wrote two columns about this. And I read both of them. MORRIS: We can only vaguely remember the few days after the tsunami he was criticized. Gentlemen, here is a contributing columnist that has had a hard time getting anything anywhere, so he will be appearing periodically with the news commentary, enjoy. A Call to Action. I was recently watching a US History class work through a unit about the protests of the 1960's and 1970's. The main protests they covered were an assortment of Civil Rights protests from the days of Medgar Evers to the assassination of Dr. King, and after that a handful of anti-war protest highlighting mainly the Kent State Massacre. I remember thinking at the time, "where do I sign to be a part of this, to carry it forward into the next century." The truth is you can't. America has become laid back in the past twenty to forty years; the years following Watergate to the Fall of Saigon to the Iranian revolution and seizing of the American Embassy. After such turbulent times we find ourselves at ease with misfortune and disaster and accepting them has ordinary. The American population has become a passive one, that takes no interest in the day-to-day workings of its government. A government that has realized that indeed the majority of Americans no longer take an interest in politics aside from just the same straight party voting they learned from their parents. This realization has given the federal government a blank check to yield whatever power they desire. Now with that kind of power there are two paths for a politician to take: The first approach was to try and reinvent the government for many citizens and support education that would help people make informed decisions; to invest the power of government into the people. This approach was to ensure that, like Thomas Jefferson stated, the government was "deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." The second approach, the one taken by Mr. Bush, is to try keep people in the dark about what powers they have has citizens, and try to make the broad oversteps of power taken by his administration seem normal. That's wrong, but with the lackluster attitude taken by the American people to such the encroachments of the administration. The administration has invaded our privacy, tried to change the highest law in the United States into an instrument of discrimination, paid off large business and his wealthy cohorts, started a war with faulty intelligence causing the death of many young Americans for oil, has been far from honest with the American people, has offended many of our allies, pulled out of many international treaties (environmental, political, and military), tried to undermine one of the best programs ever launched by our government, and has generally been arrogant, stubborn, and unwilling to look facts in the eye over his domestic and foreign policy. And the American people have eaten up like candy, why? The obvious answer to that is they feel that it doesn't affect them directly and thus isn't important. Imagine if a similar attitude existed in pre-revolution America. If the grievances of King George III, which are about on the same level has what we we've gotten from our own George, had been tolerated has normal then, where would we be today? Quite simply the grievances would have increased, and that is what's going to happen if we allow Bush's policies to remain unchallenged en masse. The protests of thirty and forty years ago where beautiful in regards that citizens of the United States came together to topple a problem. To let the government know what they thought, to let the government know that they wouldn't tolerate any black marks on the record of the Land of Freedom. The people of the United States need to overcome their laziness, overcome feelings of ease and apathy over the happenings in Washington. The people of the United States need to recognize "a long train of abuses" and understand that "it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." Over two hundred years ago Thomas Jefferson penned these words. Now the nation that he helped father is on the path of letting down the trust of our founding fathers, except for maybe Hamilton, and letting a chain of power abuses go unpunished, letting the government do what they like and ignoring the responsibility that we all have to fix the problem in Washington, to let the politicians know what we need to fix America. We need to band together and protest for equal rights for all, to protest against the needless killing of America's youth overseas, for privacy, for help to those less fortunate, against flagrant oversteps in power by any branch of government, against indefinite detainment of anyone for anything, and to do the right thing and put people first. In short we need to tell Washington that America is a civilized nation and they should start making sure it acts like one. Maybe these some of these issues don't play a part in some of our lives, but it is our duty, nay our responsibility to ensure all of these. My fellow citizens I ask you band together, and make sure that we recall those that stand in opposition to progress in America, and replace them with those that will create progress. Together Americans can change the world, for Benjamin Franklin was correct in that "If we don't hang together, we shall surely hang separately." Excelsior.

Letter From Michael Moore

To All My Fellow Americans Who Voted for George W. Bush: On this, the fourth anniversary of 9/11, I'm just curious, how does it feel? How does it feel to know that the man you elected to lead us after we were attacked went ahead and put a guy in charge of FEMA whose main qualification was that he ran horse shows? That's right. Horse shows. I really want to know -- and I ask you this in all sincerity and with all due respect -- how do you feel about the utter contempt Mr. Bush has shown for your safety? C'mon, give me just a moment of honesty. Don't start ranting on about how this disaster in New Orleans was the fault of one of the poorest cities in America. Put aside your hatred of Democrats and liberals and anyone with the last name of Clinton. Just look me in the eye and tell me our President did the right thing after 9/11 by naming a horse show runner as the top man to protect us in case of an emergency or catastrophe. I want you to put aside your self-affixed label of Republican/conservative/born-again/capitalist/ditto-head/right-winger and just talk to me as an American, on the common ground we both call America. Are we safer now than before 9/11? When you learn that behind the horse show runner, the #2 and #3 men in charge of emergency preparedness have zero experience in emergency preparedness, do you think we are safer? When you look at Michael Chertoff, the head of Homeland Security, a man with little experience in national security, do you feel secure? When men who never served in the military and have never seen young men die in battle send our young people off to war, do you think they know how to conduct a war? Do they know what it means to have your legs blown off for a threat that was never there? Do you really believe that turning over important government services to private corporations has resulted in better services for the people? Why do you hate our federal government so much? You have voted for politicians for the past 25 years whose main goal has been to de-fund the federal government. Do you think that cutting federal programs like FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers has been good or bad for America? GOOD OR BAD? With the nation's debt at an all-time high, do you think tax cuts for the rich are still a good idea? Will you give yours back so hundreds of thousands of homeless in New Orleans can have a home? Do you believe in Jesus? Really? Didn't he say that we would be judged by how we treat the least among us? Hurricane Katrina came in and blew off the facade that we were a nation with liberty and justice for all. The wind howled and the water rose and what was revealed was that the poor in America shall be left to suffer and die while the President of the United States fiddles and tells them to eat cake. That's not a joke. The day the hurricane hit and the levees broke, Mr. Bush, John McCain and their rich pals were stuffing themselves with cake. A full day after the levees broke (the same levees whose repair funding he had cut), Mr. Bush was playing a guitar some country singer gave him. All this while New Orleans sank under water. It would take ANOTHER day before the President would do a flyover in his jumbo jet, peeking out the widow at the misery 2500 feet below him as he flew back to his second home in DC. It would then be TWO MORE DAYS before a trickle of federal aid and troops would arrive. This was no seven minutes in a sitting trance while children read "My Pet Goat" to him. This was FOUR DAYS of doing nothing other than saying "Brownie (FEMA director Michael Brown), you're doing a heck of a job!" My Republican friends, does it bother you that we are the laughing stock of the world? And on this sacred day of remembrance, do you think we honor or shame those who died on 9/11/01? If we learned nothing and find ourselves today every bit as vulnerable and unprepared as we were on that bright sunny morning, then did the 3,000 die in vain? Our vulnerability is not just about dealing with terrorists or natural disasters. We are vulnerable and unsafe because we allow one in eight Americans to live in horrible poverty. We accept an education system where one in six children never graduate and most of those who do can't string a coherent sentence together. The middle class can't pay the mortgage or the hospital bills and 45 million have no health coverage whatsoever. Are we safe? Do you really feel safe? You can only move so far out and build so many gated communities before the fruit of what you've sown will be crashing through your walls and demanding retribution. Do you really want to wait until that happens? Or is it your hope that if they are left alone long enough to soil themselves and shoot themselves and drown in the filth that fills the street that maybe the problem will somehow go away? I know you know better. You gave the country and the world a man who wasn't up for the job and all he does is hire people who aren't up for the job. You did this to us, to the world, to the people of New Orleans. Please fix it. Bush is yours. And you know, for our peace and safety and security, this has to be fixed. What do you propose? NEW ORLEANS, Sept 6 (Reuters) - The U.S. government agency leading the rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina said on Tuesday it does not want the news media to take photographs of the dead as they are recovered from the flooded New Orleans area.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, heavily criticized for its slow response to the devastation caused by the hurricane, rejected requests from journalists to accompany rescue boats as they went out to search for storm victims.

An agency spokeswoman said space was needed on the rescue boats and that "the recovery of the victims is being treated with dignity and the utmost respect."

"We have requested that no photographs of the deceased be made by the media," the spokeswoman said in an e-mailed response to a Reuters inquiry.

The Bush administration also has prevented the news media from photographing flag-draped caskets of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq, which has sparked criticism that the government is trying to block images that put the war in a bad light.

The White House is under fire for its handling of the relief effort, which many officials have charged was slow and bureacratic, contributing to the death and mayhem in New Orleans after the storm struck on Aug. 29. (Additional reporting by Deborah Charles)

“Yesterday, I was hoping President Bush would come away from his tour of the regional devastation triggered by Hurricane Katrina with a new understanding for the magnitude of the suffering and for the abject failures of the current Federal Emergency Management Agency. 24 hours later, the President has yet to answer my call for a cabinet-level official to lead our efforts. Meanwhile, FEMA, now a shell of what it once was, continues to be overwhelmed by the task at hand.

“I understand that the U.S. Forest Service had water-tanker aircraft available to help douse the fires raging on our riverfront, but FEMA has yet to accept the aid. When Amtrak offered trains to evacuate significant numbers of victims – far more efficiently than buses – FEMA again dragged its feet. Offers of medicine, communications equipment and other desperately needed items continue to flow in, only to be ignored by the agency.

“But perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street levee. Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a Presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment. The good and decent people of southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast – black and white, rich and poor, young and old – deserve far better from their national government.

“Mr. President, I’m imploring you once again to get a cabinet-level official stood up as soon as possible to get this entire operation moving forward regionwide with all the resources – military and otherwise – necessary to relieve the unmitigated suffering and economic damage that is unfolding.”

COOPER: Sir, a man who lives right here on this corner was asking me that question.

LOTT: No, that is not accurate. We've got the National Guard troops that we need. They're coming in there. They're coming in 1,200 a day into Mississippi. We're going to have 6,000 to 7,000 in Mississippi alone, not just Mississippi National Guardsmen, but Alabama, all the way to Michigan are going to be there. We're all pulling together.

Look, I don't want to minimize the difficulty or the magnitude of this problem. It's a big one, we've to get everything in there that we can. But we've had problems like communications. When you get stuff there, distribution center, the people can't get there. You've got to get it out into the community. We have a problem with fuel. I've got people that want to go -- my own son hadn't been there because I told him if you in there, you can't get back because you won't have gas.

COOPER: Right, well I can tell you now -- there's a gas station down here that's charging about $5 for a gallon of fuel, and the line is two miles long. But it is not just the news media that is asking these questions. There's a man named Charles Kerney (ph) who lost his home. He came up to me today, heard an interview last night, and he said, "I want to know, I mean, why aren't there more National Guard? And it's not enough," he said.

And I'm telling you what he said, and wanted me to ask you. He said, "It's not enough to hear that they are coming in the future." He wants to know why they aren't here now. I mean, should troops have been pre-positioned?

LOTT: Anderson, when you're hurt, even when people are pre- positioned -- some folks don't seem to realize, you have to clear roads, first. You have to get in there. And that's what you do the first day. For the first day, you're trying to clear the roads, get everything assembled, you know, find people that are...

COOPER: So you're happy with the federal government response?

LOTT: Look, I'm one of them. And I...

COOPER: Well, I know. I understand that. But you're pleased with the federal government response?

LOTT: I am pleased with the federal government response. And by the way, while they're hurting, and I understand it, this is not a time for complaining. This is a time for specifying what help we need, and let's make sure we get it in there. I'm really shocked at some of the comments that are coming, you know, a day or two or three, a week from now.

Look, if they're not doing their job, I'll be the first guy to complain. I'm not a shrinking violet. But I've dealt with the magnitude of this problem. I understand the transportation, the communication, all that has to go on. And remember, the disaster that went over New Orleans and hit us is still going on. They're under water. They're three fires in New Orleans. I looked at it today.

At least our disaster was three days ago and I could go stand in my community and say, "Well, here's where we were." But they're still dealing with it right now. And they're scared, they're panicked. It is a devastating thing, don't let me minimize that.

COOPER: In retrospect, was it a mistake for the federal government in the last couple years to cut the budget for the army corps of engineers in southeastern Louisiana for hurricane protection? Was it a mistake to cut some of the federal funding for flood control in that region?

LOTT: Yes, I do think that's been a mistake. People that don't live in flood areas of the country -- and lots of the country don't really fully understand good work the corps does and how badly we need it. Yes, I don't think it was a wise decision. I think we should put more into flood control problems.

But, you know, you've got papers like the "Washington Post" editorializing against what the corps does when they build levees and they build pumps. But yes, we ought to be putting more into it, and I vote that way every year.

...COOPER: I can't get over this image of this woman laying out in the street for 48, you know, 72 hours.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: No, and like I said, what do you think this mother feels when she came in with a healthy baby and now her baby's in like a comatose state?

Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag. Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with? Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her! I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike? And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ! On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that. There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland. No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this! FRED BARNES, EXECUTIVE EDITOR, "THE WEEKLY STANDARD": You know, I was talking to a Republican official today who had his television on. And he was watching it.And he said, you know, every half or hour or so, you know, there's another billion dollars, another billion dollars the federal government's going to have to spend.

And talking about what is going to be a massive supplemental spending bill that will undoubtedly pass overwhelming in the House and the Senate this fall. I also predict the president, if he's not already in New Orleans, will be there very soon. Maybe the water has to subside a little.

I mean, that's a part of it. The president has to go there, has to promise all kinds of money. Congress passes it. And, in some cases, it's OK.

But my problem with it is that, in some of these areas, like a below- sea-level city like New Orleans, they're not -- they want the rest of us to insure their risk. As people who live on the San Andreas Fault in California, where they know there are going to be earthquakes, people who live along the Mississippi River in these low farmland areas...

HUME: Floodplains.

BARNES: ... near the river, the floodplains. They know they're going to flood. And when these things happen, they want the taxpayers all over the country to pay, and they do.

HUME: So they can rebuild, right?

(LAUGHTER)

BARNES: Yes, right, exactly.

KONDRACKE: I mean, it's...

HUME: How many times have you heard the guy, "Well, we got wiped out in Camille, but we rebuild. We love it here. And we'll rebuild again."

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER, SYNDICATED COLUMNIST: Right, with your money.

KONDRACKE: Well, you know, where do you draw the line in this case? Do you see, "OK, you people in New Orleans, you self-insure. We're not covering any of you." I mean, there would be presumably no New Orleans left.

HUME: And what would the headline be to in the tabloid newspaper?

KONDRACKE: "Washington, D.C. to New Orleans: Drop dead."

HUME: Bush.

BARNES: Drop dead.

KONDRACKE: Right, exactly. Bush actually exceeded the Clinton record this time. He declared the emergency in advance in all of these states, so that they can get...

HUME: Declared an emergency, then a disaster.

KONDRACKE: Yes, so he could get everything rolling early. And you know, his first FEMA director was Joe Albaugh, who was his chief of staff when he was governor of Texas. So he learned the Clinton lesson and the Bush I lesson.

KRAUTHAMMER: It's a bit unseemly to talk about cutting off aid to these people while the hurricane is still roaring through Mississippi. But let's give it a try.

You're right about these places where people willingly accept risk. And the worst are the Barrier Islands, that are we know are sort of worn away by nature over time dramatically. And we spend billions trying to stop it, dredging, and moving sand, and all of this. And then a hurricane comes along, and 10 years of work is wiped out.

What we have to have is a little political courage, which of course is never going to happen, which is that we all agree that some areas of the country are too dangerous and too expensive...

HUME: To insure?

KRAUTHAMMER: To insure.

HUME: And the insurance companies will decide that for us, but then suddenly the government steps in, right?

(CROSSTALK)

KRAUTHAMMER: Well, we have to declare in advance certain areas off- limits to federal aid. Now, I don't think that's ever going to happen. But unless we do,we are asking for -- I mean, as we build hugely on the coast -- these disasters to hit us again, and again, and we never learn a lesson.

KONDRACKE: Yes, well, the question is, where do you draw the line? And that's the problem. Do you draw it at the Barrier Islands? Do you draw it at Vero Beach, you know, where Fred has a beach house?

HUME: How did your house, by the way, do over the weekend?

BARNES: Well, it did fine, because we were on the Atlantic coast and the hurricane went to the Gulf Coast. So it missed it entirely.

HUME: It got rained on, right?

BARNES: But last year, when there were two hurricanes, and I got a new roof, I paid my part. My private insurance company paid the other part. The federal government and taxpayers paid no part.

HUME: What about the cover on your swimming pool? Did the government...

BARNES: I paid all of that.

Well, here in Central, PA gas prices are flirting with $2.80! AH! Yesterday we had prices around 2.59, what a heartbreak. Seems Katrina will be affecting us all. This got me to thinking, between the cursing at my computer, which by the way, is in a slightly better condition at this moment, what if Google ran the oil industry. They're now giving away GMAIL to everyone, not just invites from friends. Over 2gb space for free, and features out the butt! All for free, they make all the money from the text ads they run... WHAT A DEAL! Why can't we just look at ads as we fill our gas tank? I'd be willing to wait a little longer for the car to be filled if gas prices were a couple quarters cheaper per gallon. Yeah, I know, dumb idea, but lets face it, we need to start somewhere.

Cornered in Crawford -From The Crawford Update President Bush seems to be cornered by the peace movement with peace camps located on both exits from the Western White House. But since he doesn't go by land anyway, and we've only seen him once in the 16 days here, we've decided to offer him the opportunity to land right here at Camp Casey. The construction crew is working overtime in the limited space we have to make sure that a helicopter pad is ready for Marine One to land upon Bush's return to Crawford. Naturally, the landing site meets or even exceeds FAA regulations; in fact, the FAA has already come out here to survey the site (okay, not really). We've found an environmentally sound location for the pad, and noise controls have been put in place so as not to disturb the cows. Furthermore, we will have a bicycle at the ready in case the President wants to continue his 5-week exercise program. He can ride home on a red carpet if he wants-- after all, it's only a block or two from here. The landing pad will be ready in the morning, with pictures to follow.No excuses, Mr. President.

Mr. Bush, please meet with Cindy Sheehan. 82 soldiers have died sense you started your vacation. I know, you may not want to hear what she has to say, but sometimes we have to do things we don't want to do. They are doing everything they can at "Camp Casey" to accommodate you if you care to show up. And hey, for the hour you're out of office, I can cover for you. One brother helping another.

Freestar media is attempting to seize his house to build "The Lost Liberty Hotel", a tribute to the lost right of private property in America. The hotel will be placed upon Souter's home in Weare, Conn.

My car runs on milk... Because it's cheaper

Well, from the looks of it, the price of a gallon of milk ($2.80) is now the same as a gallon of gas in Denver, CO. A sad day it is, especially when a non-driver, like me, is feeling the affects of the high gasoline prices. Today I watched as a Dodge Caravan was filled up with regular unleaded, total price: $47.02. As if that is not bad enough, the same mini-van made a trip back later that same day for $20 more in fuel. To make matters worse, this was my family minivan. On the good side, gas in this area has dropped 2 cents.

Here's the big question: Currently our President and Vice President have somehow been able to raise gas prices over 50 cents in just the past 2 months. The men who made their fortunes in the oil industry, take political office, then take the most powerful position in our government and BAM! Gas prices sky rocket... Hmm.... (Go ahead... Scratch your head, think about this one for a bit) Hmm..... Where does all the money go?

Now here is something. Good ol' Rush Limbaugh and his little buddy Paul Shanklin came up with this wonderful right-wing tune a few years back about crazy liberals trying to save gas. The song, In a Yugo, a parody of In The Ghetto, can be found below. Sorry, I searched and searched for an MP3, but came up empty handed, but the lyrics are there. So, as gas prices continue to push forward, we realize just how much of a moron El Rushbo is. Not so funny now, huh?

Alright, I doubt I am the only one who is so annoyed with the Fox News Alerts every 30 seconds! Maybe this does keep their audience on their toes, but my God, I am a teenager (who from what I am told has to have a short attention span) and it really annoys me. Not every little thing deserves an alert! I'm sorry, but let it go. Take for example on July 24, 2005 at 4:50PM a Fox News Alert is issued with the title "President Makes Phone Call To Lance Armstrong" ...... I honestly do not know what to say to that. I guess I should be shocked at the fact Mr. Bush can use a telephone, though something is telling me Daddy Dick Cheney had to dial it for him. Well, I am at least glad W. congratulated Lance on his victory, or maybe he was just inviting him over to Texas to compete in the first ever Tour de Bush.

Well, as promised, I will write a little more before the end of today. Before anything, I respect CNN's decision to suspend Mr. Novak in accordance with FCC regulations. Okay, that's out of the way. I must say, I would love to know what exactly brought that on; what was his producer telling him in the ear piece. (If this info was released and I missed it, please tell me. From what I saw and heard he was going to ask Mr. Novak about his previous screw up with the confidential information leak... Oddly enough turned into another screw up.) I suppose, Bob has been nothing but a "trouble-maker" with the CIA leak, but then again, is having a trouble maker in the new industry a bad thing? I'm tired of hearing what Brad Pitt did this weekend, or which celebrity did what. I want real news, I want shows which aren't afraid to opine. I want Fair and Balanced, and I ACTUALLY want it to be FAIR and BALANCED! I suppose that's a lot to ask.... Ha! Is it? It's about time American NEWS grows up. I thank God for the time when I can escape the world of crap NEWS to see what Bill Maher has to say, or get my information from the "fake" NEWS source of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Oiy. A recent stream of hate from right wing and pro war activists has flooded Cindy Sheehan's inbox. Letters telling her she is anti-American and has no right to say we should pull our troops from Iraq. It is far from anti-American to ask and plead for your President to pull America's sons and Daughters out of Iraq. You can not say to a grieving mother, "You're anti-American, you're against the war!" That is complete and utter bull. These Nascar dads need to get out of there gas guzzling Suburbans, take a good look at the yellow ribbon magnet on the back of that vehicle, and ask themselves "Am I supporting the troops by keeping them at least four more years in a place that they may die tomorrow?" Below is a letter written by Cindy Sheehan regarding one email sent to her:

I have received dozens of emails with this heading: Go Home and Take Care of Your Kids. I think of all the name calling and unnecessary and untrue trashing of my character, this one offends me the most. What do the people who send me this message mean? First of all, it offends me because it is so blatantly sexist. Would anyone think of emailing George Bush when he is out and about (now he is going on a vacation away from his vacation to make speeches in Idaho and Utah defending his killing policies), telling him to go and take care of his kids? Does anyone write to ANY man and tell him to go home and take care of his kids. I have news for all of these people, my children are adults and their dad is home to take care of them if they need any taking care of. The second reason this command from the self-righteous right offends me is that I believe that what I am doing is for my children, and the world's children. I think that the strategy of eternal baseless war for corporate profit and greed is bad for all of our children: born and unborn. We heard a few weeks ago that Rummy said that we would be in Iraq for at least a dozen more years, and we recently heard over the weekend that the military is planning for four more years of this occupation, at least. If Rummy is correct, then Soccer Safety Mom Susie's kindergartener will be fighting and dying in the harsh sands of the Middle East and if the military is correct than NASCAR Dad Nick's middle-schooler should start boot camp now. I hate to be the one to break it to America, but constant war is not a positive family value and this administration's policies are not making us more secure. We as mothers need to stop buying into the load of misogynistic crap that our children need our constant presence in their lives so they can thrive and grow. What we need as families are strong support systems that allow each family member to grow and achieve his/her full potential as human beings. What we as Moms need to stop doing is giving our children to the military industrial war complex to be used as human cluster bombs: to kill innocent civilians and to perhaps die enriching and feeding the gluttonous war machine. It is up to us Moms to make sure our children are whole and safe. We can start doing this by always opposing the wars that bury our kids before us. So what I am saying to the people who want me to go home and take care of my kids: I AM taking care of my kids, and yours, too.

I suppose it is fitting to give a little introduction; I've been told a number of times to shut up when it comes to my views on the world, simply because I am not of the age to vote. During the last election I was very active in my support of John Kerry, and I believe through my actions I was able to sway voters. A rather powerful feat for someone who can not even drive to his local polling station, let alone cast his ballet. therefore, I decided to start this weblog to opine on the issues I find most important. My goal is to not only to get my voice heard, but the voices of other teen who are active in their world. The cliche that we would rather be out skateboarding and destroying property rather than making our world a better place for everyone must end. I hope that through this blog people will become aware that we are a powerful force, and in 2008 our voices will be heard. My plan is to have this be an interactive community for all to voice there views through the writing of articles for this blog. I wish you a good stay here, and a pleasant day.
